Here's me, the nutshell version:
* I write articles about interesting things like the end of Dubai, being a conflicted carnivore, how Martha Wainwright is the new Piaf, and the dive bar as religion. Clients have included New York Magazine, Real Simple and AARP the Magazine.
* I co-founded and publish Wish You Were Here, inspiring travel, one nifty place at a time.
* I also co-founded the skint, a daily missive curating NYC on the free and cheap, which the New York Times called "priceless." Nearly 10,000 people read it every day.
* I'm part of the founding team at NBC's Nonstop Sound, a blog about music in New York City. I also started NBC's daily event column What You're Doing Tonight, which evolved into its own blog and now appears in cities across the country.
* I traveled from Connecticut to the tippy-top of Maine, eating at lobster pounds and clam shacks, to write New England's Favorite Seafood Shacks, a food-travel scrapbook. I sampled 156 lobster rolls and found out that interviewing fishermen often involves getting up really early and drinking beer for breakfast. But it was worth it: The book is in its third printing, and I now get comped a second bag of oyster crackers at select establishments on the seaboard.
* And! I started a hot jazz/dixieland outfit called the Hot Sardines. We play music from the 1930s and thenabouts. You can check us out over here and find out where we're playing next.
